Privacy Policy
Widgee ("the App") is published by SeaFog Lab ("we", "us"). This Policy describes how the App handles information belonging to you ("the User"). It applies to the App and its Home Screen widget extension. By installing or using the App, you acknowledge that you have read this Policy in its entirety.
Data Storage
Widgee stores all data locally on your device. Widget configurations, saved photos, display preferences, App settings such as language, appearance and icon, and the last screen brightness the System Panel read are written to the device file system. If you connect Apple Health, the App reads your step count, walking and running distance, active energy, exercise minutes, stand hours, flights climbed, resting heart rate and sleep in order to draw the Daily Health widget. It never writes to Apple Health. To show the widget while your device is locked, it keeps, on the device only, the most recent day's figures for the metrics you show, with yesterday's and the past week's for comparison — hour-by-hour steps and active energy, each day's total for every metric you show, last night's sleep stages, and the times you fell asleep and woke on each of the past seven nights; if you show the Streak Grid design, also each day's step total for up to the past 49 weeks and each of the past 28 days' totals for the metrics it shows — but not the individual Health records. It replaces them with each new reading, and removes them when you delete your last Daily Health widget or remove the App. Health data is never transmitted to us or to any third party, and is not used for analytics, advertising or crash reporting. If you turn on events from your calendars for a calendar widget, the App and its widgets read the titles and times of the events in the calendars you choose, for about the next two months, in order to list them on the widget. The App remembers which calendars you chose, but does not keep the events themselves, and it never changes your calendars. Your photographs, the names you give your widgets, the contents of your calendar, the names, dates and places you enter in a countdown widget, the words you write about a photo, and the colours, fonts, layouts and other content you choose for your widgets are never transmitted to us or to any third party. Apart from the App Store version check and the page requests described below, and any email you choose to send us, the only information that leaves the device is the crash diagnostics, the usage records and the performance measurements described below: which of the App's screens you open; the kind, size and design of a widget you open, change, save or place on your Home Screen, and which kinds of its settings you change; which of the App's themes you save a wallpaper or icons from, or add a widget from, and how many icons; a small number of events about the App itself, such as its being opened and its version changing; and how quickly the App runs. To notice when a widget first appears on your Home Screen, the App also keeps, on the device only, a list of the widgets it has already seen there; that list is never transmitted. If you reset the System Panel's traffic statistics, the App likewise keeps, on the device only, the traffic counters and the time at that moment, so that later totals start again from zero; these are never transmitted.
Photographs
Photos you add to a widget are copied into a shared App Group container so that the widget extension may render them on the Home Screen. Copies are deleted automatically when the corresponding widget is removed. When you add a photo, the App also reads the date and time the photo itself records it was taken, if it records one, and keeps it with that widget's settings so that a theme can print it. It does not read where the photo was taken, and the date is deleted with the widget. If you ask the App to save a theme's wallpaper or icons, it adds those pictures to your photo library. It asks only to add to the library, so it cannot see the photos already there, and it keeps no record of what it saved.
Theme Wallpapers and Icons
If you install a theme's icons as a configuration profile, the App builds the profile on your device and hands it to Safari over a connection that stays on the device, on the loopback address 127.0.0.1. Nothing off the device can reach that connection, and the profile is not sent to us. You install the profile yourself in Settings, the App cannot see whether you did, and removing the profile in Settings removes its icons.
Accounts and Analytics
The App contains no account system, no advertising, and no third-party tracking software. We do not build a profile of you, and we do not sell or share information about you, except as described in this clause. To find and fix faults, the App sends crash diagnostics to Firebase Crashlytics, and it reads release information such as a required minimum version from Firebase Remote Config. To tell you when a newer version of the App is available, it also asks Apple's App Store for the number of the App's latest version, sending only the App's own identifier and your device's region setting. To learn which parts of the App are used, and so to improve it, the App also records, using Firebase Analytics: the name of each of its own screens that you open; when you open a widget to create or edit it, which kinds of its settings you change — its name, size, style, content, or whether it is a favourite — though never the name, colours, fonts or content you choose; and when you save it; when one of your widgets first appears on your Home Screen; once a day, how many of the App's widgets are on your Home Screen, by size; how far you go through the App's introduction; when you save the wallpaper or icons of one of the App's themes, or add its widget, which theme it is, whether you saved all of its icons or only some, and how many; and when you tap Contact Us, and on which screen — though never anything you write. A record about a widget carries its kind, its size, which of the App's designs it is built from, whether it is new, and which part of the App you opened it from. Firebase Analytics additionally records a small number of events about the App itself: that it was opened, that a period of use began and how long it lasted, and that its version or the operating system's version changed. To learn how quickly the App runs on real devices, Firebase Performance Monitoring measures how long it takes to start, how long each period in the foreground and the background lasts, and how smoothly its screens draw. It also measures the App's own network requests: the address requested, the reply code, the size of what was sent and received, and how long each took. The App requests no address but Google's own Firebase services, the App Store version check described above, and the online pages of the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use when you open them, so what is measured is the App talking to those services and those pages — never a page you have visited elsewhere, and never an address you have entered. The four Firebase services are provided by Google, which processes that information on our behalf. A crash report describes the fault, the device model, and the operating system version, together with whether the App was running on an iPhone, an iPad, or a Mac or Apple Vision Pro, which of the App's screens was open, which kind of widget you were editing, if any, how many widgets you have saved, and whether the App came from the App Store, from TestFlight, or from a development build, and carries a randomly generated installation identifier that is not linked to your name, your Apple Account, or your contact details, and that is replaced if you delete and reinstall the App. The usage records carry a similar randomly generated identifier, together with the App's version, your device model, its operating system and platform, its language, and the country or region indicated by your network address. The performance measurements carry the same installation identifier as the crash reports, and the same technical details. None of them carry anything you have put into the App, nor anything it reads from Apple Health: no text you have typed, no photograph, no calendar entry, and no health measurement. None of this is used to track you across other companies' apps or websites, and the App reads no advertising identifier. The System Panel details screen reads your device's own network address and its network traffic counters, and the System Panel widget reads the same traffic counters, in order to display them to you. These are read on the device, shown on the device, and never transmitted; the App stores them, on the device only, when you reset the traffic statistics, as described under Data Storage.
In-App Documents
This Policy and the Terms of Use are published online, on pages hosted by Cloudflare. When you open either document in the App, your device requests the page from Cloudflare, which receives your network address, your device details, the page requested and the time, in order to deliver the page and protect the service, and handles them under its own privacy policy. The request carries nothing you have put into the App. These pages set no cookies and use no analytics, advertising or tracking.
Email to Us
Contact Us opens your own email app with a message addressed to us. It is prefilled with the App's version and build and your operating system and its version, and you can see and change everything in it before sending. If you send it, we receive your email address, what you write and anything you attach, through Google's Gmail, which hosts that mailbox. We use them only to answer you, and you may ask us to delete them.
Your Rights
Widget configurations, photographs and display preferences remain on your device. You may erase them at any time by deleting the relevant widget or removing the App; no request to us is required, as we hold no copy of them. If you have connected Apple Health, you may withdraw the App's access at any time in the Health app (Profile › Apps › Widgee), and deleting your last Daily Health widget or removing the App erases the figures it keeps. The crash diagnostics, usage records and performance measurements described above are not erased that way. They are held by Google on our instruction for a limited retention period, and removing the App does not withdraw them, although it does replace the identifiers described above, so records made afterwards are not connected to earlier ones. They carry no name and no contact details. Should you wish to make a request about them, write to us at the address given in the Contact clause below.
Children
The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, write to us and we will delete what we hold.
Changes to This Policy
We may revise this Policy when the App changes. The current edition is always published at this address, and the version and effective date at the top of this page identify it. Where the law requires us to give you notice of a change, we will.
